For the fourth year in a row, the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack women’s soccer team is holding a benefit soccer clinic.
The date of the clinic will be Saturday March 31st at Hillside Stadium.
The WolfPack started this clinic in 2009 to not only raise money for a worthy charity, but also to give back to the soccer community by exposing young players to some instruction while playing on the artificial turf.
“This is always a highlight for our team to be involved with,” said WolfPack head coach Tom McManus. “ We are doing it just before the start of the Kamloops Youth Soccer Association season, so the players will get some extra touches on the ball.”
For the third year, the CIBC Run for the Cure and Breast Cancer research will be the benefactor of money raised at the event. “It was unanimous,” said WolfPack co captain Abbey McAuley. “I think everyone has been touched by cancer and we are no different.”
The 2012 WolfPack women’s soccer benefit clinic will be open to both boys and girls from the age of 5-16. It will be broken into two groups, depending on the age of the players who sign up. Each session will be 2 hours in length. The first session is 10 to noon with the other being noon-2 pm.
Something new this year will be the chance for young players to get their picture taken with and autographs from WolfPack players, many of whom are graduates of the KYSA program.
Admission will be by donation but its recommended $10.00 per child. Interested participants should register in advance by contacting TRU Sports Information Officer Larry Read at lread@tru.ca or (250) 377-6117.
The WolfPack are the defending PAC WEST Champions for 2011.

KAMLOOPS YOUTH SOCCER TO HOST NATIONAL
CHAMPIONSHIP IN 2013!
The Kamloops Youth Soccer Association will play host to the BMO Under-16 Canadian Club Championships in 2013!
The announcement was made following the most recent meeting of the Canadian Soccer Association Competitions
Committee this past weekend.
The CSA annually stages national competition in two categories: “All-Star” and “Club”. The National All-Star Championships
are normally held in August and involve provincial select teams. The National Club Championships are traditionally held
over the Thanksgiving Day-weekend in October where the competition features the Provincial Premier A Cup-winning boys and
girls teams from across the country. The tournament involves 24 teams––12 boys and 12 girls. The host province usually
gets two berths, while the remaining provinces receive one, in both genders.
Kelly Shantz’s girls Rep team from Kamloops represented BC at last year’s National U-16 Club Championships held in Winnipeg.
“We are absolutely thrilled to receive this great news,” says KYSA President, Graham Cope. “It will be the first time in the
history of our organization that Kamloops will be playing host to a national youth soccer competition. It’s a bit of recognition
for the good things that are happening here.
“Our hosting of the Provincial A Cup finals last July impressed the visiting delegation from the BC Soccer Association.
Our city parks guys had the fields at McArthur Island in pristine condition, the facilities were excellent and the organization
was flawless. That certainly helped in our quest to convince the CSA that we’re suitable hosts.”
